Translated to “good air,” Bon Air was originally developed as a resort. Wealthy Richmonders enjoyed its  fresh country air as a getaway from the dirty air of Richmond’s industrial downtown of the late 19th century. A central portion of Bon Air has been designated as a National Historic District with many Victorian-designed homes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
